The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration invites residents, business owners and stakeholders to attend the upcoming open house meetings for the Southern Maryland Rapid Transit (SMRT) Planning and Environment Linkages (PEL) Study. These meetings will present the latest technical project analysis, including projected ridership, cost, and environmental and economic impacts, and will help identify potential transit solutions for Southern Maryland. The SMRT project aims to provide an alternative travel option between Southern Maryland and the Washington, D.C. region. The first meeting will be held in Prince George's County December 4 and the second in Charles County on December 10; both meetings will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. A virtual meeting also will be held on December 11 at 6 p.m. Details for that are available on the project website https://smrtmaryland.com/. Metro Subway Alert: Service Adjustments for New Train Testing
Metro Subway is temporarily adjusting service this weekend (Friday, Dec. 12 through Monday, Dec. 15) to accommodate testing of MTA's new rail car fleet. Please read this schedule carefully. FULL CLOSURE & FREE SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE (FRIDAY & SUNDAY) During the following times, all Metro Subway stations will be closed. Free shuttle bus service will be in place between all stations. Riders should allow for extra travel time. -Closure 1: Friday, Dec. 12, starting at 6:30 p.m. until Saturday, Dec.13 at 6 a.m. -Closure 2: Sunday, Dec. 14, starting at 6 a.m. until Monday, Dec. 15, at 5 a.m. REGULAR SERVICE WITH TRAIN TESTING (SATURDAY ONLY) On Saturday, Dec. 13, from 6 a.m. until Sunday, Dec. 14, at 6 a.m., Metro Subway will operate its regular scheduled passenger service.
