New CharmPass QR Code Scanners at Metro Subway Stations MTA has launched new QR code faregate scanners at Metro Subway stations when using the CharmPass mobile app to make your transit trip even easier. When using the CharmPass mobile app, just purchase, activate, and scan. Where to find the new CharmPass scanners: New scanners are located at the two gates closest to the station attendant booth at all Metro Subway stations. How it works: Purchase: Buy your fare with a credit or debit card in the CharmPass mobile app. Activate: Activate it before you reach the gate. Once activated, a one-way ticket is good for two hours. Scan: Enlarge the QR code on your screen and hold your phone face down 2-3 inches above the scanner. When the light turns green, you're ready to walk through. You don't need to scan again to exit; gates will open automatically as you leave the station.
